Homosexuality and Religion

Why is it that gays get so bent out of shape when the subject of relgion, and especially Christianity comes up, and especially at this site?  Gays are so sensitive to this subject.  Maybe it is my imagination, but nothing gets them out of sorts like this.

Is it  because we as Christians think they are wrong?  Well, we think lots of folk are wrong, even those within our own fold.

Is it because we think its a choice?  Maybe, since they don't think they do have a choice.  Yet, when pressed for evidence they cannot offer any.  We point that out and it only enflames them further.

Is it because we call it sinful?  Perhaps, again this is it.  But there are so many things that are sinful, aren't there?  Definition of sin: that which separates us from God, of which all sexual activity outside of marriage fits, among all the other areas where we fall short.

Is it because we try to limit their access to endoctrinating us and our children?  Hmmm.  Maybe its that one, too.  But isn't that why they want to keep us out of government, schools, TV, seemingly everything (except, of course, and how gracious, our churches!)

I often wonder also why Christianity?  Why not Islam.  Christianity only calls it a sin and "tries to convert".  Muslims will kill them.  Judaism, perhaps not a big deal since all of them are going to heaven anyway.  But given the choice between a Christian and a Muslim, they almost always seem to think their chances are better with the Muslim.

OK, OK, OK.  I'll grant I'm painting a large brush.  But am I?  Or maybe I exaggerate.  But do I?  Maybe I just discount the cruelty of individual Christians.  Perhaps they may have me there, to a point.  Christians can be bad people-- but we are people.  This doesn't change that our truth source says it is a sin, among many.  It doesn't change that their's is a lifestyle, and by definition a choice.  Doesn't change a lot of things.

Ah, I am just amazed at their reaction to Christianity.

On the nature of debate

It is interesting to watch and read folks debate.  I have spent some time the last few days out in the comments on a few of the columns out there.  I learned some interesting things, especially how important it is when debating certain issues to determine where the other is coming from.

I say this because so many with left leaning views can cloak their true ideas and make them seem plausible.  They do this often without thinking, but there are some who do this to decieve.  This is not to say some on the right do not do this, because some of us do so as well.  I do not think this is wise and do not think it helps your cause to do so.  It is dishonest and misleading.

It is important to try to see why someone thinks why they do.  It is important to see where they come from and what their ultimate goal is.  This way, you can better respond to the real issue.

The debate over Christianity's role in society today is rife with such distortions.  The debate of abortion is also, as are so many.

I realize I leave this post without providing concrete examples.  That is not the intent of the post.  If there is debate on this, those will be flushed out and I can easily provide some.  But to all sides, remember to be true to your point when debating, and do not try to mask your true agenda.
